The US dollar has had its worst start to the year since 1973. The greenback is trading at multiyear lows against most major currencies. Against the euro, it’s near a four-year low and, against Japanese yen, it hit a 10-year low.
Trade negotiations with Japan have hit an impasse over rice and auto exports. Japan remains firm and says it will not sacrifice its agricultural sector.
