Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is on track to return to action this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals after receiving clearance from medical experts to resume practice following his recent concussion.
Head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Tagovailoa is set to practice on Wednesday, with the intention of starting for the Dolphins (2-4) at home this Sunday.
“We’re following the guidance and advice of medical professionals, who have deemed it safe for him to make his comeback,” McDaniel stated.
“I trust the experts when it comes to matters concerning the players’ health and well-being. We’re abiding by their recommendations in this case.”
Tagovailoa sustained his injury during a Week 2 matchup against the Buffalo Bills when he collided with Bills’ defensive back Damar Hamlin.
On the play, Tagovailoa chose to lower his shoulder into Hamlin, rather than slide, after running for a first down. This incident adds to his history of head injuries since entering the NFL, including two previous concussions in 2022 and a scary head hit later that season, prompting changes to the league’s concussion protocols.
“I believe he’s more aware now of his responsibilities to the entire organization,” McDaniel remarked.
During Tagovailoa’s absence, the Dolphins have rotated through three different quarterbacks. Skylar Thompson filled in against Buffalo before starting in Week 3, but he suffered a rib injury. Tyler Huntley then took over and went 1-1 as a starter before sustaining an injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, leading to Tim Boyle finishing the match.
Week Seven action continues with a Monday Night Football double-header, featuring the Baltimore Ravens versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Chargers facing the Arizona Cardinals, both live on Sky Sports NFL early into Tuesday morning. You can also stream these games on NOW.
In conclusion, the Miami Dolphins are eager to welcome back Tua Tagovailoa to the field after his recovery from a concussion. With a string of injuries at the quarterback position, the Dolphins are hoping for stability and leadership from Tagovailoa moving forward. As the NFL season progresses, Tagovailoa’s return comes at a critical juncture for the team’s playoff aspirations. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Tagovailoa performs in his comeback game against the Arizona Cardinals.
