We are now learning that President Donald Trump’s Treasury Department will sanction Russia’s two largest oil producers, Rosneft and Lukoil. According to Trump, this continues to escalate pressure on the Kremlin to end its war in Ukraine. Edward Fishman from Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy is discussing next steps for the war in Ukraine with LiveNOW’s Mike Pache.
“I think that they’ll certainly have an impact there. They’re massive sanctions and sanctions on oil. The two biggest oil companies, among the biggest in the world,” Trump said during a press gaggle in the Oval Office alongside NATO Secretary Gen. Mark Rutte.
“The United States will continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the war, and a permanent peace depends entirely on Russia’s willingness to negotiate in good faith. Treasury will continue to use its authorities in support of a peace process,” the Treasury Department said.
