Stocks close mixed, two types of retailers that could benefit from a tough tariff environment

Stocks ended the Friday, August 15, trading day mixed. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both closed lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average got a boost from UnitedHealth Group. Those shares closed nearly 12% higher after it was revealed Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway had been buying the stock.

President Trump’s tariffs could be a headwind for some retailers, but HSBC senior vice president and sector head of retail and apparel Eric Fisch says there are two spaces that could benefit from them.
