The Kings are looking at a marquee point guard to acquire. Sacramento might go after Brogdon, Smart, or Holiday this summer, as has been reported. This has been the new GM Scott Perry’s recent emphasis: in his introductory press conference, he stressed the need for better playmaking; now the Kings have to go out there and do it.

The image attached to the post is a graphic featuring the three guards as a question with their stat lines and team affiliations. It is a neat, straightforward visual that put Sacramento’s options in the spotlight.
There were a good number of comments from fans disparaging the supposed interest from the Kings: while a few had reasonable skepticism, many more were incredulous. One user wrote, “Dude, I HOPE the Kings sign 50-year-old Jrue Holiday expecting him to set them on the right track lmfao.” Such sarcasm, indeed, embodies the greater disappointment by some fans with how mismanaged the point guard situation has been for the Kings.
Another user, seemingly unable to resist, commented, “Kings looking for a Point Guard you say? Gee if only they had two Point Guards on their roster that had all-star potential…oh wait….. THEY DID AND TRADED BOTH OF THEM 🤣.” The bitter irony of the intent versus the reality of letting both De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton (two amazing point guards) go is a real sore spot within the Sacramento faithful.
Some users were hopeful; one stated, “Would be sick if they could get Haliburton or Fox!” The conversation then continued over which of the three candidates was the better: one ranked them as “22′ Smart, 23′ Brogdon, 25′ Holiday,” citing Smart’s Defensive Player of the Year and Brogdon’s Sixth Man of the Year as the big years.
The front office in Sacramento has got to do some work in convincing the fans that they will get it right this time. Whatever it may be: Brogdon, Smart, Holiday, or someone else altogether, it has to be that huge step forward for the franchise.
Sacramento’s point guard history of late has been quite acrimonious, but if Perry and the boys would be able to pull out a smart acquisition, well, maybe, just maybe, they could start re-telling their story. However, for now, the jibes and the skepticism will continue, and honestly? Well deserved.
The Kings have been down that road before. Fans are right to be apprehensive but, if the Kings can finally land that floor general to lift their team, laughter might very well turn to cheers. For now, though, memes and sarcasm are winning the day.
