There have been many conspiracy theories about Victor Wembanyama’s actual height. Many doubted its accuracy when the San Antonio Spurs listed him at 7-foot-5 during training camp — an increase from last year’s 7-foot-3. 

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst believes Wemby is approaching 7-foot-7 and that his reported rookie season height of 7-foot-3 was inaccurate. The Ringer’s Bill Simmons has accused the Spurs of lying about Wemby’s height.

Former NBA center Boban Marjanovic, who was listed at 7-foot-4 during his playing days, recently added more fuel to the fire. “On the paper, I’m taller,” Marjanovic told ESPN, via Bleacher Report. “I saw 7-foot-3, I’m 7-foot-4. But I was looking [up] at him and I was like, ‘No way I’m taller than him.'”

On Monday, Wemby was asked why his height had become “the stuff of conspiracy,” and whether he pays attention to it. The Frenchman also answered whether his height should be a topic of conversation. 

“The truth is, yes, sometimes I’m surprised that it’s still a conversation,” Wemby said, via Hector Ledesma. “In my mind, it doesn’t really make a difference. I’m taller than everybody else, and that’s all you need to know.”

The Spurs phenom is not the first supremely talented NBA superstar to have his height questioned. Kevin Durant, whom the Houston Rockets have listed at 6-foot-11, has been accused of being taller than 7-foot by many of his peers, including some of his ex-teammates. Durant’s measurements became a hot topic during the 2024 Paris Olympics, when Team USA listed him at 6-foot-9. Durant said he was listed accurately, even though he appeared taller than Joel Embiid, who is listed at 7-foot-1, in team photos. 

Wemby enters the 2025-26 season with high expectations, with some analysts predicting he will win both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Doing so would mean he joins Michael Jordan (1987-88), Hakeem Olajuwon (1993-94) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (2019-20) as the only players to win both regular-season awards in the same season.
