Bryson DeChambeau seemed annoyed with Rory McIlroy immediately after the Masters ended on Sunday, but the reigning U.S. Open champion has since changed his tune.
DeChambeau was in the final pairing with McIlroy on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. DeChambeau was just two shots behind McIlroy, who was the leader, at the start of the round. DeChambeau struggled with a 3-over 75 and finished tied for fifth. McIlroy beat Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff to capture his first Green Jacket and complete the career Grand Slam.
After the tournament, DeChambeau implied that McIlroy was standoffish toward the LIV golfer throughout the day on Sunday. DeChambeau, who seemed bothered, said McIlroy “didn’t talk to me once.” You can see the video here.
But on Monday, DeChambeau shared a message on social media that included a “huge congratulations” to McIlroy.
“It was a battle all week, and even without my best stuff, I proved to myself that I have the ability to win this tournament one day,” DeChambeau wrote on X. “It’s tough, but moments like this have taught me a lot and now I’m more motivated than ever to get back to work. Thank you all for the unwavering support this week! We will be back. Huge congratulations to Rory on an incredible achievement in completing the career Grand Slam of golf. He deserved to get this one.”
