Ukraine is under mounting pressure from Slovakia and a group of central European companies to keep gas moving from its eastern border with Russia into the European Union following the expiration of a transit agreement on Dec. 31. Meanwhile Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy are set for protracted ceasefire negotiations in the new year with US President-elect Donald Trump saying he wants to bring the war to a rapid end.
