HMND 01 Alpha Bipedal, which was built in just five months and learned to walk in a short time like 48 hours, displays its skills with a nostalgic Christmas theme this time. This huge robot, approximately 1 meter 78 centimeters tall and weighing 90 kilograms, brings technology and humor together by reenacting one of the classic scenes of popular culture.

In the video referencing the gift-wrapping scene in the famous movie “Love Actually”, HMND 01 appears as a store clerk. It responds instantly to a customer’s request for a toy robot with its advanced sensors and NVIDIA-based autonomous decision-making ability. In response to the customer’s “simple packaging” request, the robot takes the situation to a completely different dimension by referencing Rowan Atkinson’s iconic character. The robot, starting work by saying “This is so much more than a box,” fills the box with bolts and nuts along with decorations, narrating the test of the robotics world with human emotions in a fun language.

Journey from Factories to Store Counters The most crucial moment of the video happens when the customer’s spouse comes and asks, “Hasn’t it finished yet?” The robot’s defense, “Wait a little longer sir, I’ve only had my hands for a week,” actually whispers a sincere truth about the development process of these complex machines. HMND 01 eventually realizes it messed things up, quietly pushes that complex box aside, and hands a pre-packaged ready box to the customer. The developer team uses NVIDIA’s Isaac Lab platform to speed up HMND 01’s training process. We have seen in the videos published so far that the robot can hold delicate objects, maintain its balance, and step in every direction. However, its movements are still quite slow and cautious.

The company does not plan to put this fast-developing humanoid robot into our homes for now. Their primary targets are industrial areas, namely factories and warehouses. Still, this latest video proves that HMND 01 can dream of going behind the counter in a luxury store like Harrods one day.
