On Thursday, May 1 World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler got off to a hot start at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in his home state of Texas.
Scheffler, who missed the tournament last year to witness the birth of his first child, son Bennett, fired a 10-under, 61 to kick off the tournament with a two-shot lead after the first day.
“Feel good. I played nice today,” Scheffler said after his round on May 1. “Had the good front nine and was able to put together a solid back nine as well. Overall, very pleased with the results of today.”
“I hit some good shots to start the round, gave myself some looks, and was able to capitalize with a good iron shot on three and hit another iron shot on four. I kept hitting fairways and greens,” he added. “Hit that nice pitch into six, good pitch into five as well. Was able to take advantage of the holes I needed to on the front nine.”
Scheffler didn’t get off to as hot a start in his second round, just 2-under through nine holes, but he retained his two-shot advantage before the tournament came to a screeching halt. Earlier Friday morning the PGA Tour announced second-round play was suspended at 10:46 a.m. ET due to lightning in the area.
Some four hours later, the tour issued a new announcement that didn’t sit too well with fans who wondered why they waited so long to issue a statement.

Storms in McKinney, TX are expected to come to a halt within the next hour, so a resumption in play could be near.
