Mohammad Imran Khan Mewati, an eminent teacher based in Rajasthan, has been selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the prestigious Global Teacher Prize.

He is the only Indian to make it to the final list. The Global Teacher Prize, an initiative by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, recognises outstanding teachers worldwide who have made a significant impact on their students and communities.

The annual award carries a prize of $1 million, making it one of the most prestigious accolades in the education sector.

Mewati’s dedication to education has been widely acknowledged, with his efforts even receiving recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past. 

Mewati has spent more than two decades working dedicatedly towards transforming education in rural parts of the country.

Born into a modest farming family, Mewari began tutoring children at 14 to support his family. He became a teacher in 1999.

Often touted as the “app guru”, Meeati has  developed more than 100 educational apps, available for free on the Google Play Store.

His apps cover a wide array of subjects, including education for primary classes, competitive exam preparation, health and social welfare. 

He has received numerous awards, including the National Teacher Award and the Jamnal Bello Award, for his contributions to education and rural development.

Mewati’s work extends beyond the classroom, addressing systemic challenges in rural schools, such as absenteeism and infrastructure issues. He has empowered students through innovative approaches and has trained thousands of teachers in ICT integration and content creation. 

His story showcases the impact of dedication, technology and innovative teaching methods in bridging educational gaps and inspiring communities.
