Former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently defended TJ Majors’ decision to honor former Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon despite the backlash. Recently, Dirty Mo Media shared images of the hood featuring Gordon’s iconic flame livery, and fans were not impressed, criticizing the decision.

The X post displayed Majors and Earnhardt Jr. standing next to the newly installed car hood at the studio. The hood featured Gordon’s infamous 2001 DuPont livery, with red flames over a blue background, accompanied by “Dirty Mo Media” written in the center. Earnhardt explained that Majors chose the design, as he’s the co-host of the show and a Gordon fan.

However, fans were not impressed by the livery design. Reflecting on that, Dale Earnhardt Jr. dropped a comment recalling his years with Jeff Gordon and stated:

“Hilarious how folks are acting in the comments. Me and Jeff were actually teammates for several years. I gotta give JG due credit. And TJ gets to pick a hood. Only fair being that he is a co-host. AND a Gordon fan will support our foundation by purchasing it on auction at the end of the year.”

Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. both competed for Hendrick Motorsports in the Cup Series from 2008 to 2016. Gordon drove his iconic #24 Chevy, and Earnhardt Jr. piloted the well-recognized #88 Chevy for the team. The duo clinched multiple wins during that time. Additionally, the former Xfinity Series champion also revealed the hood will eventually be auctioned at the end of the year.

Former NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared an X post, dropping his views on the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium held on Feb. 4, 2026. In the post, Dale Jr. claimed he really “enjoyed” the event despite the drastic weather conditions.

The short-track event was rescheduled twice before taking place on Feb. 4 due to the historic snowfall in Winston-Salem. The weather also took a toll on the 200-lap main event, leading to a mandatory pit stop for the Cup Series drivers.

Despite all the challenges and negative comments by fans, Dale Earnhardt Jr. appreciated NASCAR for completing the event. Dale Jr. explained:

“Lotta chatter on the race last night. I’m not complaining because I think Cup even racing at Bowman Grey period is badass. I appreciate Nascar working to get a finish. The weather was an issue and I’m glad they pushed through instead of giving up.”

“I don’t like allowing the field to fuel when others had opted to put themselves at an advantage in that area. But it doesn’t ruin the night for me. It was an exhibition, and I was entertained. Appreciate the entire industry dealing with all the inconveniences to make the event happen,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. concluded.

The Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium witnessed 11 lead changes, and RFK Racing driver Ryan Preece took home his first-ever Cup Series victory. Meanwhile, Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron and Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney clinched the podium finishes.
