Jiri Prochazka had a stellar 2025 campaign. This year, he seems determined to reclaim the light heavyweight throne. Suffice it to say, given ‘BJP’s’ less-than-ideal track record in recent title fights, fans were not unanimously in support of the fighter’s bold ambition.
Prochazka went undefeated in 2025. In January, he secured a hard-fought third-round TKO win over former champion Jamahal Hill, and later at UFC 320 in October, he scored a violent third-round knockout over Khalil Rountree Jr., in a fight he was losing on the scorecards after the first two rounds.
Now, the Czech national wants a title shot. Responding to UFC Europe’s post on who his next opponent should be, Prochazka wrote:
“I don’t care who, but my stand is still the same. Now I believe I am in a position to fight for the belt.”

However, ‘BJP’ is 1-2 in UFC title fights, and he suffered knockout losses to Alex Pereira in his last two attempts to claim the belt. Unfortunately for the 33-year-old, ‘Poatan’ is still the champion at 205 pounds.
Suffice it to say, fight fans are divided on Prochazka fighting for the title a fourth time.

“You’re the people’s champ regardless.”
However, not all reactions were in ‘BJP’s’ favor.

Jiri Prochazka confident of beating Alex Pereira the third time around
Despite suffering brutal defeats to Alex Pereira twice, Jiri Prochazka believes he can beat the reigning light heavyweight champion in a potential third fight.
In their first meeting at UFC 295, ‘BJP’ suffered a second-round TKO, and in their title fight rematch at UFC 303, faced an even worse fate as a powerful head kick, followed by punches, left Prochazka struggling to regain his footing even after the fight was stopped in the second round.
Despite back-to-back setbacks, the Czech national seems intent on exacting retribution. During an interview with Megan Olivi following his UFC 320 win over Khalil Rountree Jr., Prochazka said:
“Maybe you don’t believe me yet, but I believe I will find a way for Alex in the third match… I really understand, I need pressure from opponent, from myself. And in that case, I’m working the best. I’m doing the best. So, I just need to accept who I am and… find a way through Alex Pereira.” [0:55 mark of the interview]
