Meta has postponed the launch of its new mixed reality headset, codenamed “Phoenix,” to 2027. With the Limitless acquisition and the new “Malibu 2” wearable device, the company’s future plans are taking shape.
The expected big reveal for Meta’s new mixed reality headset has been postponed to the first half of 2027. In an internal note, Meta Reality Labs Foundation Vice President Maher Saba confirmed that the device codenamed “Phoenix” will no longer be released in 2026.
Delay for a “Smoother and More Reliable” Experience

According to a separate briefing shared by Meta executives, this postponement aims for the device to offer a much more “polished and reliable user experience.” As reported by Business Insider, Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns from Meta stated that the new schedule provides the team with “much more breathing room to do this right.”
Although public information about Phoenix is quite limited, according to previous reports from The Information, the device will have a glasses-like design and an external power source, similar to the Apple Vision Pro.
Meta is Pursuing New Wearable Technologies

According to Saba’s note, Meta is also working on a new wearable device to be produced in limited numbers, codenamed “Malibu 2.”
On the other hand, the company recently announced that it has acquired the startup Limitless, which develops an AI-focused wearable device named Pendant. Although Meta’s current product range mainly consists of smart glasses and VR headsets, the Limitless acquisition and the Malibu 2 project indicate that the company aims to expand its product range in the field of wearable technology.
