The NFT project Meebits has partnered with the for-profit, modern, and contemporary art fair, Art Basel, to launch a limited-edition sculpture. This collaboration brings digital culture to the real world.
According to a tweet from the official Meebits X account, the sculpture is called The Falconer. The team created The Falconer exclusively for Art Basel’s Qatar shop, which is set to open at the inaugural fair between February 5 and 7.
Art Basel usually hosts major annual international events in four cities: Miami Beach, Hong Kong, Paris, and Basel, Switzerland. The events connect galleries, artists, and collectors, featuring contemporary and modern works, and major exhibitions. The fair began in Basel, Switzerland, in 1970 and will make its debut in Doha this year.
The event in Doha will be on a smaller scale, with Art Basel focusing on single-artist presentations across seven venues in Msheireb Downtown Doha. Besides the inaugural fair in Doha, Art Basel will host subsequent events in Hong Kong, Switzerland, Paris, and Miami Beach in March, June, October, and December, respectively.
Meebits’ alliance with Art Basel is huge for the NFT project because the art entity is believed to launch the largest and most prestigious fairs of the contemporary and modern art market. Meebits will be unveiled to new audiences and could tap into the art communities to widen its user base.
Excitement for the partnership is already high, with digital versions of The Falconer sold out on the Meebits website on day one. Meebits CEO Sergio Silva revealed that The Falconer sculpture honors local tradition and culture. Physical versions of the NFT are exclusively available at the Art Basel shop in Doha while supplies last.
The latest development comes less than three months after Meebits announced a physical toy drop for its AI NFT holders. The project had launched the playable AI character, Viz, on Apechain Hub, asking users to mint an AI Toy Early Access Pass to become eligible to collect both the Viz ApeChain NFT and a physical toy.
Meebits users who followed the instructions received Viz airdrops in their ApeChain wallets and, eventually, physical toys delivered to their locations by the first week of December. Viz is now a new Meebits character participating in the Otherside Metaverse.
