Manufacturing activity contracts in July, Jobs report misses, SEC Chair talks crypto regulation

ISM Manufacturing data for July fell from 49 to 48. It was the fifth straight month of contraction. ISM CEO Thomas Derry discusses the tariff impact,
“76% of manufacturing was in contraction in the month of July, which was the highest reading since December 24, so that is a concern.”
Coinbase stock sinks after missing expectations. Second quarter revenue missed expectations. Mizuho Americas Senior Financial Technology Analyst Dan Dolev says, “There’s nothing wrong with the quarter, they’re doing great,” but adds that he is not surprised by the decline given the stock’s recent run.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins spoke with Fed Correspondent Jennifer Schonberger about the regulation of crypto assets. “We are taking a new path than what has been done before with this agency.” Atkins went on to discuss establishing a new crypto task force called “Project Crypto.”
