Manchester United are now racing rival English clubs to the signature of an “insane” Premier League forward, with a big development in the transfer saga expected soon, according to a report.

In truth, a huge rebuild is probably needed to turn Man United back into contenders for the top honours, but they appear to be particularly keen on a new winger ahead of the summer, given that Antony and Marcus Rashford were sent out on loan in January.

Barcelona’s Raphinha is said to be one of the more outlandish targets, with a report revealing United could have the capability to make a huge bid for the Brazilian, who is currently thought to be among the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or.

Antoine Semenyo has also emerged as an option for the Red Devils, in light of an impressive campaign with AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League this season, with the Cherries making an unexpected push for Europe.

Brighton & Hove Albion are also vying for a European spot, and Man United are thought to be interested in a winger currently playing for the Seagulls, with a report from Caught Offside revealing they are among the suitors for Kaoru Mitoma.

Ruben Amorim’s side are set to battle their Premier League rivals for the winger, with Chelsea and Liverpool also eyeing a deal, which could be relatively affordable, with an asking price of around €55m (£46m) being touted.

However, there could be a big development in the transfer saga soon, as Brighton are now believed to be trying desperately to tie him down to a new contract, which would see Mitoma extend his stay at the American Express Stadium until 2030.

The Japanese winger has been a key player for Brighton for quite some time, and former manager Roberto De Zerbi was a big fan, saying: “I have no words left for Mitoma. He’s really underrated but trust me, he’s so so underrated. The world of football hasn’t understood the value of Mitoma. He can be an incredible player for any manager, not just for me. He’s insane.”

The Brighton star has been particularly impressive since the turn of the year, picking up five goals and one assist in all competitions in 2025, having cemented his place in the starting XI.

£46m seems like a fair price for a player of Mitoma’s ability, so it is promising news that Man United are in the race for his signature. However, a move does not seem particularly likely as things stand, given that a new deal to remain at Brighton could be on the cards.
