Manchester United have announced the sale of academy graduate Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley.
The midfielder joined the Red Devils as a teenager from AS Monaco in 2019 and managed to break into the first-team setup, going on to make 13 appearances at senior level.
But Hannibal’s time at United has come to an end, with a permanent move to Burnley confirmed on Wednesday. The final fee could reach £9m if all add-ons are met, while there is a significant sell-on clause in the deal.
The Clarets are busy rebuilding after being relegated from the Premier League last season and are among the favourites for promotion from the Championship under new manager Scott Parker.
Hannibal told Burnley club channels: “I’m very excited. Very happy to be here and I can’t wait to see the fans. I have played against Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing.
“After speaking to the coach, the project sounded good to me and hopefully we can make success.”
Hannibal made his way into Erik ten Hag’s United plans towards the start of the 2023/24 season amid the first-team’s injury crisis. He played ten times that term before joining La Liga side Sevilla on loan for the second half of the campaign, but he made only six appearances during his short time in southern Spain.
United are expected to confirm the departure of fellow midfielder and academy graduate Scott McTominay in the coming days, with a move to Napoli nearing completion. In terms of incomings, United are wrapping up the signing of Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.
