We are just one day away from the end of the year and we are hearing that major cities worldwide are working to scale back their New Year’s celebrations amid reports of ongoing threats and security concerns. LiveNOW’s Shawna Khalafi is speaking with Criminologist, Dr. Alex del Carmen, as law enforcement agencies across the country prepare for extra patrols on New Year’s Eve.
We have also heard that National Guard troops will deploy in New Orleans this week as part of heightened New Year’s security in the city. This comes after a deadly truck attack in the city one year earlier.
Police in Washington, D.C. tell FOX 5 that they are tracking a New Year’s threat assessment by the FBI and Homeland Security. It warns law enforcement to be on guard and remain vigilant in case of possible terror attacks. “We have our own internal team that’s performing our own analysis with our federal partners, and I think we do a good job with taking action on the ones that warrant our attention,” D.C.’s Assistant Police Chief Jeffrey Kopp said.
