We are learning more this Sunday as a major coastal storm is set to impact the Tri-State area, prompting blizzard warnings for New York City, Long Island, and coastal Connecticut. Forecasters continue to call for heavy snow, strong winds, and significant travel disruptions for people across the coast. According to the National Weather Service, blizzard warnings were issued for places like NYC, Rockland and Westchester counties, all of Long Island and northeastern New Jersey and coastal Connecticut. These warnings began Sunday morning and are set to continue through Monday afternoon. LiveNOW’s Shawna Khalafi is learning more about the potential for major storm impacts with a meteorologist from the Washington Post’s Climate and Environment team, Ben Noll.
This comes as New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for 22 counties across the region, including all of NYC, from Albany through Long Island. “We received word that it’s even worse than we expected, and it is a rapidly deteriorating situation,” she said, adding that this storm “is one to take seriously.” According to our partners at Fox Weather, this could be one of the top 10 biggest storms seen by cities along the I-95 corridor.
