Louis Koo Returns in Time Travel Action Movie ‘Back to the Past’ Trailer

“I deem only you to be trustworthy!” Back into history and there’s more endless battles! Well Go USA has revealed an official US trailer for the Hong Kong action thriller time travel movie called Back to the Past, which seems like an obvious spoof title riffing on Back to the Future. This just opened in theaters over in Hong Kong & China on December 31st a few weeks ago – and it’s hitting US theaters up on the big screen at the end of January soon. After losing everything for a crime he didn’t commit, Ken vows to travel back in time to the Qin Dynasty and reclaim everything he lost by usurping the throne. The film is a continuation of the 2001 television series, A Step into the Past, which was adapted from Wong Yee’s novel, The Chronicles of Searching Qin. Starring the original cast from the series: Louis Koo, Raymond Lam, Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok, Joyce Tang, and Michelle Saram all reprising their roles from the series. Well this looks exceptionally cheesy, almost like a SNL spoof trailer at times. Worth a look for a bit of historical action fun.

In the Qin Dynasty, time-traveller Hong Siu-lung has lived in seclusion with his family for twenty years. Yet every step he takes remains under the watchful eye of his former disciple, now the Qin Emperor. On the brink of ultimate power after conquering the six warring states, the emperor is suddenly ambushed by a mysterious team wielding advanced weapons clearly originating from Hong’s time. Drawn together by fate again, Hong and Qin Emperor are forced to confront the long-buried conflict between them, because the future now depends on how they settle their past. Back to the Past is directed by acclaimed action filmmakers Jack Lai (Possession Street) & VFX veteran Yuen Fai Ng (Warriors of the Future) making their first movie together. The screenplay is written by Lily He; based on the book by Wong Yee. Produced by Louis Koo and Wai-Bat Tang. This first opened in Hong Kong on December 31st a few weeks ago. Well Go USA will debut Back to the Past in select US theaters as well starting on January 30th, 2026 coming up.
