Jim Bob Duggar sent an interesting letter to his son Joseph following his arrest.
As you know, this is the second son of the Duggar patriarch to get into hot water relating to the sexual exploitation of children. First, it was Josh, who Jim Bob and his wife Michelle were hesitant to condemn at first. We heard at the time Jim Bob was really wanting to try and sweep things under the rug before they eventually released their statement.
But this time around, they were pretty quick to release a statement through a rep, saying they were “heartbroken” by Joseph’s child molestation allegations and sticking by Joe’s wife Kendra (who, of course, has some charges of her own). Regardless, the letter Jim Bob reportedly sent to his son doesn’t seem to follow along that exact same sentiment.
According to People on Thursday, Jim Bob sent an email to Joseph after he was booked into jail, and it read:
“Mom & I love you very much!”

He then reportedly wrote about how sorry he was for what Joe is currently going through, and warned him “you have a long road ahead of you.” Uhhh… Sorry that he’s in jail? Sorry that he’s got some serious, disgusting charges against him? Ick.
But even then, Jim Bob did kind of scold Joseph, adding:
“You have made some terrible decisions, but God has already forgiven you if you have asked him.”
He’s kinda quick to brush off those “terrible decisions”! Sigh…
He continued in the letter, warning his son about the consequences he’s “probably” going to face:
“You are just going to have to accept the situation at this point and it’s also fine to pray that God would have mercy on you, but you’re probably gonna face a major consequences [sic] for several years to come.”
On the topic of their faith, Jim Bob encouraged Joseph to look on the bright side and… use this as an opportunity to spread their faith. He said his son can make “lemonade out of lemons”:
“[Y]ou can also point people to Christ even through the time you’re in jail and prison. David in the Bible royally messed up, but her repented and became a man after God’s own heart.”
Right… We aren’t sure if Joseph is the guy to be taking lessons from right now…
Wrapping up the letter, Jim Bob says “we’ll keep praying for you”:
“God is not finished with your life.”
Interestingly enough, this was the ONE email Joseph did not respond to from prison. Ouch. For now, we aren’t sure what he thought about his dad’s advice.
