Jamie Chadwick is set to break barriers as she becomes the first woman in over a decade to test an IndyCar in September. The British driver’s move to America to join Andretti in IndyNxt in 2023 has paved the way for this milestone moment. She will hit the track on September 30 at Barber Motorsports Park, marking the first female driver to receive an IndyCar test since 2011. The aspiration is for Chadwick to secure a full-time seat in IndyCar by 2025.
Speaking to Sky Sports News prior to the announcement, Chadwick expressed her excitement, stating, “Being an IndyNxt driver, the goal is IndyCar. So to get the opportunity to drive the IndyCar for the first time with Andretti, one of the premier teams in the grid with a rich history, is going to be a truly special experience.”
Chadwick continued, “Looking towards 2025, this opportunity allows us to explore options and hopefully aim for the big series of IndyCar. Personally, this is a significant moment for me as it represents the highest level I have ever driven or tested at. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity, and I ultimately aspire to reach IndyCar at some point in my career.”
Currently positioned fifth in the IndyNxt standings, Chadwick has clinched one win and two top five finishes, making strides compared to her previous year with Andretti. Reflecting on her performance, she mentioned, “Having faced challenges in 2023, we worked on areas that needed improvement to progress. I believe we have been competitive at every race we’ve been to, with highlights including wins. However, I still aim to achieve more this year by securing more podiums and results to strengthen my position in the championship.”
