Inter Miami v Seattle Sounders match preview
Less than three weeks after losing the Leagues Cup final 3-0 in Seattle, Inter Miami have a chance for revenge at home – but their only result since then was no confidence-booster, suffering another 3-0 defeat in the MLS at Charlotte on Saturday.
Lionel Messi had a panenka penalty saved three minutes before 21-year-old Charlotte forward Idan Toklomati scored the first goal of a hat-trick, leaving Miami manager Javier Mascherano to admit to worries over his team’s understanding that games last 90 minutes.
“We have seasoned veterans who have done it at the highest level, so it won’t be hard,” predicted defender Ian Fray, discussing Miami’s recovery prospects.
“We’ll bounce back – it’s what we do. We’ll just continue what we’ve been doing all season, stay consistent and go for some wins.”
No luck on the panenka.

Seattle supremo Brian Schmetzer was also concerned after his players spurned a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to the bottom side in the Western Conference, the LA Galaxy.
Schmetzer rapped his press conference table in frustration at the goals his team conceded, questioning their “vision in their defending” and ability to read “simple body language cues” from opposition players.
Mooted as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor as USMNT coach, Schmetzer also dismissed a suggestion that Miami players could “target” 20-year-old Mexico midfielder Obed Vargas.
“The frustrations that built in the Miami game were because Miami are a proud team – their players have played at the highest levels,” the 63-year-old reasoned.
“When a young player comes and gives them some challenges, that gets frustrating. I don’t think they’re targeting him at all.”
Inter Miami v Seattle team news
Seattle winger Paul Arriola has a long-term knee injury and forward Ryan Kent has a hamstring problem.
Midfielder Joao Paulo and forward Pedro de la Vega are doubts with knee issues but winger Jordan Morris returned from the bench against the Galaxy following shoulder surgery, making his first appearance since July 19.
Morris is one of Seattle’s Designated Players alongside the prolific Albert Rusnak, who came on following five weeks out with a hamstring injury.
Stefan Frei replaced Andrew Thomas and Schmetzer insisted the goalkeeper was not to blame for the result.
Wideman Danny Musovski and midfielder Kalani Kossa-Rienzi were the other new faces in their line-up from their starting team against Miami.
Midfielders Allen Obando and Baltasar Rodriguez and forward David Ruiz (all hamstring) are among Miami’s absentees.
Winger Fafa Picault (quad) is out and striker Luis Suarez is serving the second game of a three-match ban for spitting at a Seattle staff member during the Leagues Cup final.

Inter Miami v Seattle prediction
Seven of Seattle’s 16 away points this season have come across their last four matches on the road but their overall fortunes on their travels remain mixed and Miami’s strong home form means the favourites should win here.
As usual with Mascherano’s porous side, goals for both teams are likely and Miami can be backed to win 2-1.
Top spot in the Eastern Conference remains theoretically in eighth-placed Miami’s sights because they are 11 points behind leaders Philadelphia with four matches in hand.
Seattle are fourth in the Western Conference – seven points behind the third-placed Vancouver Whitecaps – and have the worst defensive record of the top seven.
