How The Iran War Oil Shock Threatens The Global Auto Supply Chain

The Iran war poses several risks to the global auto industry: oil price spikes mean higher raw material, manufacturing, and transport costs, among other things. The pain at the pump that comes with oil spikes is already hitting drivers – others are less certain. What is obvious to the industry now is that this is just the latest supply shock in a growing list since the coronavirus pandemic first threw global supply chains into turmoil. Because each crisis is different, it is difficult to develop a strategy or take lessons from one that can apply to others. This is also happening as the industry is paying out billions in tariff costs and trying to navigate difficult and expensive transitions to EVs and software defined vehicles.
