Hamas says senior leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in an Israeli strike on Tehran, after he was participating in the inauguration ceremony for the new Iranian president. It came after Israel said it killed a senior Hezbollah commander with an airstrike on Beirut in retaliation for Saturday’s Golan Heights attack. Also on the show: the Bank of Japan hiked its benchmark interest rate and unveiled plans to halve its bond purchases; and HSBC’s Noel Quinn signed off his final quarter as CEO with a further return of $3 billion to shareholders.
