YouTube is set to revolutionize the way content creators generate videos with new AI-powered features. Google’s text-to-video tool called “Veo” will soon be integrated into the YouTube Shorts platform, allowing creators to easily produce AI-enhanced backgrounds for their videos.
AI support for YouTube Shorts
This new feature allows creators to apply AI-generated backgrounds using a green screen format, opening up opportunities for more creative and engaging content. By 2025, the technology will progress even further, enabling the creation of fully AI-generated video clips up to six seconds long.
Google’s Veo technology, developed by OpenAI, was announced to be accessible to the public for the first time in May. The integration of this tool into YouTube signals a transformative period in content creation, as Veo competes with other AI-powered content tools. YouTube’s goal with these advancements is to attract new creators and compete with platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
Initially, creators will be able to create AI-assisted backgrounds only through the text-to-video functionality using the Dream Screen green screen feature.
Besides text-to-video capabilities, YouTube is rolling out several other AI tools for creators. The AI dubbing feature will enable voiceovers in various languages, starting with Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian, with more languages in the pipeline. Additionally, YouTube aims to mimic tones and intonations for realistic-sounding voiceovers. AI-generated titles and thumbnails in YouTube Studio will further enhance the content creation process for creators.
New feature that makes it easier to be discovered: Hype points
YouTube’s latest feature, “Hype Points,” aims to give smaller creators more visibility on the platform. Creators with less than 500,000 subscribers can increase their exposure as users “hype” their videos, leading to these videos being featured on the Hype dashboard. Beta testing in Turkey, Taiwan, and Brazil illustrated that the 18-24 age group is the most engaged with the Hype feature.
