President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted a community roundtable in Kerrville, Texas after traveling to the Hill Country to tour the damage left behind by devastating flooding over the July 4th weekend.
“A little narrow river that becomes a monster. And that’s what happened,” President Trump said. “It’s hard to believe the devastation.”
At least 120 people were killed in the flooding and more than 170 people are considered missing.
“My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls. My deepest sympathy from all of us, to the community, to everybody who lost a loved one. We are grieving with you, our nation is grieving with you,” first lady Melania Trump said during the discussion.
President Trump also said the start of his news conference was delayed while he and Melania met with families in Kerrville.
