Tallahassee police provided an update on the deadly shooting on the campus of Florida State University.
Two people are dead, and at least five other people were injured, according to officials.
The gunman was 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a sheriff’s deputy whose former service weapon was used in the shooting, authorities said.
“She has a tremendous job,” Leon County Sheriff Walter McNeil said. “Her service to this community has been exceptional. Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons and that was one of the weapons that was found at the scene. And we are continuing that investigation into how that weapon was used, and what other weapons perhaps he may have had access to.”
Police did not release a motive for the shooting.
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, police in Tallahassee said the shooting happened around 11:50 a.m. on the main campus of FSU near the Student Union. Police said the two people who were killed are not students.
All classes have been canceled through Friday.
