European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Friday a new package of sanctions against Russia, including restrictions on Russian gas and financial institutions. “Unfortunately, over the past month, Russia has shown the full extent of its contempt for diplomacy and international law,” von der Leyen said, referencing the attack on the EU’s offices in Kyiv last month. “Again and again, President Putin has escalated. And in response, Europe is increasing its pressure,” she added.
