Enjoy This Star Wars Mini Recreation – Gingerbread Trench Run Scene
by Alex Billington December 24, 2025Source: YouTube
“It’s a fun little puzzle to find: what’s the essence of this? Why is this scene I saw when I was 6 years old work for me now?” Lucasfilm & ILM have released the first fun Star Wars Mini video – a recreation of the classic Death Star Trench Run in George Lucas’ classic Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope but remade entirely with gingerbread. A festive (and tasty) holiday remix of this all-timer action scene! “Luke Skywalker faces his greatest challenge yet: defeating cookie Darth Vader and the Gingerbread empire.” Ha ha. This new Star Wars Mini video series is just a playful way to bring new life and rethink these fan-favorite moments from all of the Star Wars movies. In the third promo video below, they also hint at a crochet recreation of Empire Strikes Back along with other scenes like Anakin podracing, Grogu waddling around & more. They explain the idea for the Minis simply as: “Artists at ILM use new technology to transform movie scenes and reimagine them in unique styles.” It’s just a fun video throwback to this iconic moment in Star Wars history.

Thanks to StarWars.com for these videos and details. They explain in the intro: “This stylized animation is just one of the ways ILM artists are paying homage to the Star Wars galaxy, finding creative ways to explore both their craft and their love of the saga. The Gingerbread Death Star Trench Run was created by ILM’s artists, including Landis Fields, a real time principal creative, using some of the same Unreal Engine technology used to craft the sprawling worlds of Star Wars video games & visualize the far-flung locales of recent Star Wars live-action series.” He explains: “We all love to spread joy and inspire people to make things and to imagine things. If you look all the way back to Walt Disney and George Lucas, and the folks after them that carried the baton & built these companies up, you’ll see that that is always at the root.” Yep, definitely. They’re always trying to find ways to keep the next generation of kids interested in and connected to the Star Wars universe. And I’ll keep watching because they’re still fun & I’ll always love these characters.
