Lawmakers exiting a classified briefing with U.S. intelligence officials insisted they received assurances nothing “nefarious” is going on with the recent uptick in drone sightings in New Jersey.
Officials from the CIA, FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Defense Department met privately with members of the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. The committee’s ranking member, Congressman Jim Himes (D-CT) told reporters afterward that they were reassured these drones are not the work of a classified government operation.
Federal intelligence officials have said their theory is that there is no one reason behind this and that many of the sightings called in are simply planes, helicopters or legally-operated hobbyist drones. The FBI said it has now received more than 6,000 tips from the public regarding mysterious drone sights across the East Coast, including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and others.
Michael Inganamort, a Republican New Jersey assemblyman joined LiveNOW from FOX’s Josh Breslow to discuss the situation.
