Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent has revealed his client was so choked by the injury suffered by Jamal Musiala that he messaged him at half-time.
Bayern Munich forward Musiala sustained a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle after Donnarumma rushed from his line to make a challenge during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 win at the Club World Cup on Saturday.
Bayern were livid with experienced Germany international Manuel Neuer claiming his opposite number had been “reckless” while boss Vincent Kompany said his “blood was boiling”.

Raiola – unfair to think Donnarumma intended to hurt Musiala
Vincenzo Raiola, who represents Donnarumma, said the Italy number one was distraught and sought his support at the break.
Raiola told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Gigio is a very sensitive guy.
“Once in the locker room he even turned on his phone. In the many years that we have worked together he has never done that. He usually turns it off an hour before kick-off to focus on the game and turns it back on after the game. This time he sent me a message to tell me that he was shaken and that he hadn’t done it on purpose.
“It’s a matter of tenths of a second. Gigio arrived first and could no longer avoid the contact. It is unfair to think that he wanted to hurt Musiala, who we hope will return as soon as possible and come back stronger than before.”
Donnarumma was letting the medics do their job – Raiola
Neuer was also critical of the way Donnarumma, who has faced a severe backlash on social media, acted in the immediate aftermath of the incident, turning away rather than seeing if the Germany international was okay.
Raiola said: “He would not have been able to support anyone on the scene and preferred to move away to let the doctors take care of Musiala in the best possible way.
“In reality, I understand Neuer. It’s normal for him to defend his team-mate. And he’s also right when he says that you can behave differently. It’s true but we are all different and everyone behaves as they do.
“It was a moment in the game and the eternal duel between goalkeepers and strikers.
“In December, Gigio almost lost an eye after a challenge from a Monaco player [Wilfried Singo].
“And Neuer also hit [Gonzalo] Higuain with his fists in 2014, in a match between national teams. Then he apologised even if he admitted that he wanted to prevent a dangerous situation for his team, knowing that he risked hurting the opponent.”
Musiala facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines
Musiala flew from the United States to Germany yesterday and is expected to be out of action for several months.
A Bayern statement from board member for sport Max Eberl read: “This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all.
“This hits FC Bayern. Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he has in our team. Furthermore, there’s also a huge human impact and we all feel for him. Jamal has just come back from an injury and will now be out for another long period. He’ll get everything he needs from us. We’ll support him intensively, be by his side and already look forward to when he’s back on the pitch.”
After the match, Donnarumma posted on Instagram: “All my prayers and well wishes are with you Jamal.”
