Mark Cuban may have sold his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks, but it’s obvious his passion for the team still burns as strong as ever.
When the Mavericks and general manager Nico Harrison decided to trade superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, many eyes shifted to Cuban. The 66-year-old, who owned the franchise for 23 years, has remained mostly reserved when discussing the deal publicly.
That all changed on Thursday.
Cuban sat down with WFAA and not only offered his candid opinion of the trade, he directly called out Harrison and the Mavericks for what they received in exchange for Doncic.

“If the Mavs are going to trade Luka, that’s one thing, just get a better deal,” Cuban said.
“No disrespect to Anthony Davis … I still firmly believe, if we had gotten four unprotected No. 1’s and Anthony Davis and Max Christie, this would be a different conversation.”
The Mavericks received Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a first-round pick in exchange for Doncic. It was a deal that shook the NBA landscape, and one that many refer to as the biggest blockbuster trade in league history.
Cuban admitted he was “of course” disappointed the Mavericks traded Doncic. He refused to answer whether he would have ever considered trading the 26-year-old five-time All-NBA star.
While Cuban didn’t refer to Harrison by name, the former Nike executive-turned-general manager has made it known that this trade was his decision. Harrison, who’s held this role with the Mavericks since June 2021, previously cited Doncic not fitting “into the Mavericks’ culture” as one reason the team traded him, as The Athletic reported.
Following the sale of the Mavericks in late-2023, Cuban retained 27.7% of the franchise.
