After launching its first fund in 2019, Numerai claims its assets under management have since grown from $60 million to $450 million.
The company highlighted JPMorgan’s deployment as being a key milestone in its development. “JPMorgan is one of the largest allocators to quantitative strategies in the world, including in machine learning quant funds,” Numerai wrote.
Numerai allows freelance quant analysts to submit ideas to the platform, who are then compensated using the platform’s native cryptocurrency, NMR. The company has recently repurchased $1 million worth of NMR as a means to deepen its “alignment with the community of data scientists who power [its] models.”
Commenting on the announcement, Richard Craib, Numerai’s founder, said in an interview: “That’s when investors like JPMorgan started to be like, ‘Whoa, you guys aren’t just back, you’re way back. People don’t really want to invest until there’s a track record. And when you’re doing something super unusual and different, like we are, they might wait even longer before they get excited.”
