Any fans who were holding out hope of Chris Pratt joining the DC Universe as the next Batman were dealt some bad news. While co-CEO of DC Studios and Superman director James Gunn recently shot down the chances of Pratt becoming The Dark Knight, it’s not all bad news. It actually could be just the opposite if you’re hoping to see the Guardians of the Galaxy star make the leap from Marvel to DC Studios in the near future.
While Pratt has played the role of Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, as well as roles in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), his relationship with Gunn could play a significant part in a potential future DC role.

During a recent interview on PelucheEn ElEstuche with Gunn bluntly stated that Pratt won’t be playing Batman, but his comments that followed were interesting, especially with DC Studios gearing up for several projects over the coming years.
“[Chris Pratt] as Batman? No. As something? Yes,” Gunn said when asked about the possibility. “Chris Pratt is one of my best friends. We talk all the time, he’s a great guy. He would love to do something at DC, I would love for him to do something at DC.”
After jokingly stating Pratt would make a terrible Wonder Woman, he also shot down the idea of the 46-year-old actor playing Shazam, so we can toss those two ideas out the window.
While Gunn said he’d need to think about the possible roles that would make sense for Pratt, it’s apparent that both sides are more than willing to link back up after working together on Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn’s Red-Hot Start With the New DCU
Although it’s still early in Gunn’s reboot of the DCU, it’s hard not to be impressed with the early returns. After creating a Superman movie that’s been one of DC Studios’ biggest hits in recent years, he also got Season 2 of Peacemaker off to a great start, with the John Cena-led show holding a 99 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Superman pulled in just over $606 million worldwide at the box office, including $347 million domestically. And while there are several films in the early stages at DC Studios, time will tell if Pratt and Gunn find a role that makes sense for both parties. However, all things considered, don’t be surprised if something works out.
Pratt, who’s been linked to several rumors about the potential return of Star-Lord in either Avengers: Doomsday (2026) or Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), has been plenty busy away from the superhero world of late. He’s starred in the TV series The Terminal List, along with its follow-up, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which was just released on Wednesday, Aug. 27. He also starred in The Electric State and is already slated to be in several other projects through the remainder of 2025 and into 2026.
