Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will square off in one of the biggest fights of the century tonight, as they clash at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
So much is on the line in the 71,000 capacity venue, home to the Raiders NFL team: Canelo’s undisputed super-middleweight titles are up for grabs, while Crawford risks his unbeaten record, and each man wagers his legacy.
Mexico’s Canelo (63-2-2, 39 knockouts) is seen by many as this generation’s face of boxing, while American Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is arguably the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.
In tonight’s main event, which streams live on Netflix along with the undercard, Crawford ambitiously goes two divisions above his career-highest weight so far, challenging Canelo at 168lb. If Crawford can triumph, he will become the first three-weight undisputed champ of the modern era.
Like 35-year-old Canelo, Crawford is a four-weight world champion already, but the 37-year-old could confirm himself as this era’s greatest boxer with a victory in Vegas. Meanwhile, Canelo’s pride is on the line against the naturally smaller man, along with all the major belts in the super-middleweight division.

Harsh scores, in my opinion, especially that last one. Still, Walsh controlled the majority of the action and was a deserved winner!

Vargas Jr really pursues a finish in the final frame, but each time he lets his hands go, he leaves himself exposed and gets tagged hard.
He’s suffering more than in any previous round, in fact. Clever counters from Walsh, who’s going from head to body and back.
A slick performance from Walsh after suffering that early knockdown.

A couple of rounds to go, and this is Walsh’s fight to lose.
He peppers Vargas Jr’s guard with jabs. Vargas with a stiff jab of his own.
Swiping left overhand from Vargas, but Walsh avoids the worst of it, then comes back with a smattering of straight shots.
Both fighters land right hooks simultaneously. Decent uppercut by Vargas, too. Clean cross from Walsh.

Nice variety of offence from Walsh, who is producing fluent combinations.
A couple of times, Vargas Jr tries to get going, but Walsh is undeterred.
Ooof. Vargas with a swift, clean cross to the head, but Walsh seems unfazed. That was a good shot.
Decent right hook by Vargas, too, as he targets the head after a one-two to the body.
Walsh with some decent moments down the stretch of the round, however.

Vargas edges forward but offers nothing more than some half-feints. Walsh skips laterally into the clear.
Nice trio of shots from Vargas now, though, a one-two and a lead southpaw hook.
In the crowd, among many big names, is Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez. He pops up on the big screens, and the reception is huge.

Walsh is doing the better work overall. He’s mixing up his targets well, keeping Vargas Jr guessing about what’s coming next.
Vargas isn’t producing enough activity, either. He’s plodding forward with a high guard but failing to throw much of note. When he does, his accuracy is lacking at the moment.

Walsh is favouring a right uppercut to the body. He landed a couple late in the first round, and that’s where he picks up in the second frame.
Now two right hooks to the head, with Vargas Jr stumbling off balance slightly. He shells up as Walsh attacks again.
Vargas Jr throws his full weight into a cross to the mid-section. He aims at the body again then steps back to evade a hook upstairs from Walsh.
The end to the round is cagy, with each boxer hesitant to open up too much. Eventually, though, it’s Walsh who produces a couple of flurries.

Walsh takes the centre of the ring, bouncing up and down. Vargas Jr holds a higher guard. Both men wing left hooks simultaneously, but neither lands clean.
Oh!! Vargas Jr drops Walsh with a straight to the body! That draws a gasp from the crowd, but Walsh is straight back up and smiling – acknowledging the shot.
It looked to be a balance issue more than anything else.
Walsh corners Vargas Jr, but the American gets free. Walsh with a few hard body shots of his own now.
