So much for all that emotional distress Justin Baldoni supposedly caused Blake Lively!
According to a brand new report, the Gossip Girl alum has dropped part of her lawsuit! Whoa! Specifically, she’s letting go of her claim that the 41-year-old actor intentionally caused her emotional distress while the two of them were on the set of It Ends With Us. And to hear one insider tell it, the sudden about-face on that portion of Lively’s ongoing lawsuit against Baldoni has to do with Blake really not wanting her personal health records scrutinized! Thus, it seems like Justin just keeps on winning… well, at least for right now…

Per a new report on Monday from DailyMail.com, the 37-year-old actress has withdrawn two key claims that had been significant parts of her lawsuit against Baldoni: that he’d allegedly inflicted emotional distress upon her during their IEWU disaster AND that he’d done so negligently. The reason for Blake deciding to drop those claims, per an insider who tipped off the outlet, is that Justin’s legal team came for the receipts and demanded to see medical proof of Blake’s supposed emotional distress. That meant access to her medical records.
So by withdrawing those specific claims from the larger lawsuit, Blake’s side hopes they’ll never have to share her health history — and thus avoid having her medical records scrutinized. Huh.
FWIW, per DM, Blake’s lawyers demanded to drop those claims without prejudice — meaning they could still be refiled in the future. So this part of the story may not be finished quite yet!
Regardless, Blake’s side shared a strong retort with DM when that news outlet asked about the maneuvering. A spokesperson for Ryan Reynolds‘ wife said:
“Ms. Lively continues to allege emotional distress, as part of numerous other claims in her lawsuit, such as sexual harassment and retaliation, and massive additional compensatory damages on all of her claims.”
Lively’s crew then followed up with a not-so-subtle shot at Justin’s side over his supposed desperation to grab headlines:
“Once again this is a routine part of the litigation process that is being used as a press stunt. We are doing what trial lawyers do: preparing our case for trial by streamlining and focusing it; they are doing what they do: desperately seeking another tired round of tabloid coverage.”
“Streamlining.” Uh huh.
Of course, the rest of the claims made in Blake’s lawsuit are still in play — including alleged sexual harassment while the duo was filming the movie adaptation of the famed Colleen Hoover novel, as well as Justin’s supposed creation of a smear campaign against her.
Nevertheless, one less claim against him would seem to be a win for Justin’s side. Whatever the motivation was behind dropping the claims, having less to contend with theoretically makes the job easier for Baldoni’s lawyers, right?! You’d sure think so.
