A Bitcoin miner achieved a rare feat by single-handedly receiving a reward from block 860749. This uncommon event earned the miner approximately $180,000.

The miner successfully claimed the reward of 3.169 BTC from block 860749, a notable accomplishment given the miner’s modest system. According to data from Bitcoin transaction tracker YCharts, the miner was operating with 629 petahashes of power at the time of solving the block, representing just 0.098% of the entire network’s power. Despite this, the miner, registered with a mining pool called Solo CK, was able to claim the reward independently. Solo CK operates with smaller miners pooling their resources, but under its rules, a single miner can win the full reward.

This rare occurrence has only happened 290 times in Bitcoin’s history.

Since Bitcoin’s launch in 2009, approximately 860,000 blocks have been mined on the network, with the vast majority produced by mining pools. As mentioned earlier, the event of a single miner solving a block has only occurred 290 times, underscoring how rare this phenomenon is.

In the meantime, it’s worth noting that Bitcoin mining difficulty has reached an all-time high as of September 2024. Research shows that the difficulty level has surged to 742 exahashes (EH/s). Given the significant challenge of solving Bitcoin blocks at such a high difficulty, it is truly remarkable that a single miner could earn a reward.
