A man who authorities say is suspected of being involved in human trafficking was shot Tuesday near the U.S.-Mexico border. An exchange of gunfire with U.S. Border Patrol broke out after the suspect fired at a federal helicopter, authorities said. The incident happened near Arivaca, Arizona.
The man, 34-year-old Patrick Gary Schlegel, was hospitalized and recovering from surgery on Tuesday night. He is expected to be charged with a criminal complaint.
