Trump’s Gala Dinner: An Intersection of Politics and Crypto

Eighteen out of the 25 holders of Trump’s memecoin have interacted with the foreign crypto exchange Binance, according to a Fortune analysis. 

The dinner is a fulfilment of Trump’s promise made by him in April, when he announced that the largest holders of his memecoin would be invited to the gala. Netizens are calling this event an intersection of politics and crypto.

Meanwhile, US Senator will join a protest over ‘pay-for-access’ concerns. Rep. Maxine Waters said, “I am deeply concerned that Republicans aren’t just ignoring Trump’s corruption, they are legitimizing Trump and his family’s efforts to enrich themselves on the backs of average Americans.”

Just a few days ago, House Democrats staged a walkout as a protest against Trump’s corruption.

With Sun at the head of the table, protests are brewing outside. Trump’s direct involvement in memecoin ventures, and now stablecoin ventures, has raised ethical questions.

US Senator Jeff Merkley will be joining the protest organized by the ‘Public Citizen’ outside Trump’s Gold Club dinner.

Most attendees at Trump’s private memecoin dinner this week will likely be foreign buyers, according to CNBC.

One of the top buyers is Chinese crypto billionaire Justin Sun, who was facing fraud charges until Trump’s SEC dropped them.

While Eric Trump has dismissed the protest, a White House spokesperson said that teh President is working to secure good deals for the American people, not for himself.

Despite the controversies, the event is expected to be a networking hub for with crypto industry leaders. 

Sun is no stranger to high-profile events. In 2019, he famously won a charity lunch with none other than Warren Buffett for $4.57 million.
