A sheriff’s deputy in Lake County, Florida was fatally shot inside of a home while responding to a disturbance call in Eustis, according to Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, who added that two other deputies were shot while attempting to rescue the wounded deputy.
“They were ambushed,” Sheriff Grinnell said. “We lost one tonight.”
Grinnell said two people inside the home were also found dead, though it was not clear if they were killed in a murder-suicide or killed by the responding deputies. A third person inside the home was transported to the hospital.
“February 2005 was the last time we lost a deputy sheriff in Lake County, so it’s been a long time, thankfully, but tonight, here we are again,” Grinnell added. “But the community outpour has been great.”
The shooting will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
