Digital Currency Group (DCG) has announced the launch of Fortitude Mining, a new subsidiary dedicated to mining Bitcoin and emerging digital assets. The new company will operate as a standalone entity under DCG and will focus on expanding its operations beyond Bitcoin to include a range of other cryptocurrencies. This development comes as part of DCG’s strategy to deepen its involvement in digital asset mining.

Fortitude Mining: A New Chapter in Crypto Mining

Fortitude Mining, which originates from Foundry’s self-mining division, has operated the world’s largest Bitcoin mining pool since 2022. The new venture will be led by Andrea Childs, former senior vice president of operations and marketing at Foundry, who will serve as CEO. Childs brings six years of experience in the cryptocurrency industry to her new role.

DCG Founder Barry Silbert highlighted the significance of Fortitude Mining’s launch, emphasizing the company’s potential for growth, capital acquisition, and talent attraction. He noted that the new subsidiary would capitalize on the strong foundation established by Foundry’s existing bitcoin mining fleet and revenue.

Plans for Expansion and Growth

Fortitude Mining plans to scale its operations by reinvesting 2024 profits into upgrading its mining hardware and acquiring additional sites in 2025. The subsidiary’s strategy includes vertical integration, aiming to expand its reach and capabilities within the mining ecosystem. Mike Colyer, CEO of Foundry, will continue to oversee Foundry’s core bitcoin mining pool and software services.

Currently, Foundry’s pool generates 239.18 EH/s within a global network total of 781.7 EH/s, accounting for over 30% of the global hashing power. This computational strength forms the basis for Fortitude Mining’s future ambitions.
