Remember over the summer, early on in the It Ends With Us feud, all those the rumors about Blake Lively taking control of the movie? How she and Ryan Reynolds were allegedly pushing their Hollywood power couple weight around to get creative control to make her look better? Well, in his bombshell new lawsuit Justin Baldoni is saying that’s exactly what happened!
Some months ago, when the co-stars were just starting to get into their feud, insiders claimed it all started over Justin getting annoyed on set because of creative differences. Insiders from both camps of the on-set civil war agreed Justin was pushed to the side in the middle of working on It Ends With Us — but under different points of view! Blake’s reps said she was working closely with mostly the female team members on set — they were pushing him out because of how awful he was. Justin’s supporters claimed he felt his creative direction was not considered as important as the movie star’s — leaving him “hurt and sidelined.”

Well, now it seems to all be boiling down to something that happens a lot in our line of work, tbh — the whispers held the truth! Or at least, that’s what he’s claiming! The 40-year-old’s new lawsuit against The New York Times says:
“The Times’ story relied almost entirely on Lively’s unverified and self-serving narrative, lifting it nearly verbatim while disregarding an abundance of evidence that contradicted her claims and exposed her true motives.”
Her “true motives”? Yep. He’s saying this was all about business for Blake. The suit contends this was all a “calculated and audacious attempt to seize control of the Film.” And he’s blasting the Times for ignoring that!
“The Times willingly omits any meaningful discussion of the true source of tension between Lively and Plaintiffs, which was Lively’s brazen and calculated effort to expropriate the Film.”
He adds:
“Notably absent from the Times’ narrative is Lively’s insistence on obtaining editing privileges and demanding her own version of the Film—a departure from industry standards.”
He’s saying she really just wanted to take control of the film! And she succeeded! The suit includes text message exchanges in which Justin tried to express his frustration to publicist Jennifer Abel that he was “kicked out” from the movie:
“She’s kicked me out officially from the film now. She’s finishing it all. I can’t be involved. Music sound VFX everything. I’ll make it through somehow. Just need to feel it all.”
And in multiple exchanges with the editing team, he makes it clear he’s been shut out of that process, too, complaining the film “was supposed to be ours” but then he “was uninvited” from the post-production process in a “pretty cruel and intens” move:
The 40-year-old says she kicked out all the editors working on the film and replaced them with others — notably one that Ryan Reynolds is very close with.
Again, that’s exactly what we heard happened way back in August from film insiders! Huh. Baldoni’s suit lays it out, saying it was all about creative control in the first place — and all the “sexual harassment” claims were purposeful mischaracterization of innocent conversations on set:
“The fact is that Lively embarked on a hostile takeover of the production, strong-arming Sony into blessing her with ultimate control. As they became increasingly frantic and unsettled by the usurpation of their roles, Baldoni remained resolute that they continue to take the ‘high road’ and be proud of the ‘beautiful baby’ they had all made together. Notwithstanding, Lively waged war on Baldoni, weaponizing innocuous interactions from May and June 2023—long before there was any tension between them—to vilify and discredit him.”
He insists Blake’s “cynical abuse of sexual harassment allegations to assert unilateral control over every aspect of the production was both strategic and manipulative.”
Ultimately, Baldoni slams The Times, saying the paper’s “willful omission of these critical details not only distorts the truth but also perpetuates a false narrative that conveniently absolves Lively of her own culpability in the unraveling of professional relationships and the upheaval surrounding the Film”.
So could all this really boil down to some creative differences? If so, Blake allegedly throwing around sexual harassment claims as a cudgel to win the fight over the movie would be so MESSED UP. Frankly, we hope it’s not true… It’s just too awful if so! But we’ll endeavor to keep our reporting on this story as fair and transparent as possible, no matter what comes out.
