The Senate bill, supported by the White House, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and environmental groups, aims to speed up forest-thinning efforts and is being reconciled with a similar House-passed measure. Lawmakers are targeting the annual defense authorization bill to pass the legislation and address the urgent, record-setting pace of fires and acreage burned this year.
