The man who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump had photos on his phone of the former president, as well as pictures of President Joe Biden, Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Chris Wray and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Wilis, according to the Associated Press.
The AP also said Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, had looked up the dates for the Democratic National Convention, as well as a list of Trump’s appearances.
The new details come as questions remain about the motive behind the attack at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last weekend, where at least four people were shot, including former President Trump.
Corey Comperatore, a longtime Trump supporter and former fire chief, was fatally shot while shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire at the campaign rally. The 50-year-old worked as a project and tooling engineer and was an Army reservist.
Trump honored Comperatore on Thursday night during his record-long speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC), where he officially accepted his party’s nomination.
Trump will run alongside Ohio Senator JD Vance in the 2024 election. As of now, he will take on President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, though calls for Biden to bow out continue to come from within his own party.
