Chase Briscoe shared a hilarious response to Stephen A. Smith’s controversial rant on the athleticism of NASCAR drivers. The JGR driver uploaded a clip of him getting back-to-back buckets in an arcade basketball shootout.
Smith broke into the NASCAR fold when he argued that race car drivers aren’t athletic. He dropped the claim in his SiriusXM show, Mad Dog Sports Radio.
Thanks for the submission!
The topic came up when he was discussing the ‘greatest of all time’ in sports, and a caller mentioned Richard Petty as a deserving candidate. Smith vehemently went against the idea and riled up the NASCAR community.
Team Penske’s Joey Logano opposed Smith and stressed that he was spouting controversial remarks for the sake of it. Chase Briscoe has now joined the conversation with his own take on the matter.
“All this athlete/non athlete stuff from @stephenasmith has the @NASCAR community in an uproar, just gonna leave this video here 😂,” Briscoe’s X post read.
Chase Briscoe’s JGR teammate, Denny Hamlin, also commented on the issue. He believes a casual person’s body is not trained to maintain the G-forces inside a race car, and under that notion, NASCAR drivers make the cut for athletes.
“I will not be the person that gets up in arms on social media because of Stephen A. saying this, like who cares? Have some thick skin,” Hamlin added.
Front Row Motorsports took it a step forward and challenged Stephen A. Smith to attend a drive along with their Cup Series athletes.
Chase Briscoe and Noah Gragson draw laughs with their ‘waxing crescent moon’ claims
Chase Briscoe and Noah Gragson recently sat for an interview with the Door Bumper Clear podcast, hosted by Bubba Wallace’s spotter, Freddie Kraft. During the episode , Briscoe and Gragson launched an inside joke about Texas Motor Speedway having added grip due to the upcoming waxing crescent moon.
“Speaking of Texas this weekend, wax and crescent, so be ready. It’s going to be gripped up. How do you not know about this… Waxing crescent moon. Gravitational pull will be different this week at Texas. It’ll be ripped. Wide open in qualifying easily,” Chase Briscoe said.
The concept left the hosts confused, and the two drivers even called up Riley Herbst, Josh Berry, and Austin Dillon to back up their claims. Kraft later responded with an X post calling out Chase Briscoe and Noah Gragson.
“I’m disgusted that these two came onto DBC and just straight up lied to our millions of listeners. This weekend will be a Waxing Gibbous moon in Texas. Hope those cars aren’t off the setup plate already,” he wrote.
The theory initially came up during a Jeff Gluck interview with Gragson, where he revealed that Brad Keselowski, Alex Bowman, Ty Dillon, Erik Jones, and many more in on the joke.
