A Stand-Up Dreamer And His Ghost Roommate Hit The Stage
VeeFriends Comic Book #16 introduces Witty Weasel and Gritty Ghost in their first-ever comic book appearances and story, as the struggling stand-up comic Witty Weasel and his invisible roommate Gritty Ghost chase laughs, survival, and making it in a brutal comedy scene.
Witty & Gritty is a comedy underdog story. Witty Weasel is chasing his comedy dreams, while Gritty Ghost, a failed comedian who literally died trying, supports him along the way. Together, they navigate open mics, betrayal, self-doubt, and the pressure to compromise, learning that honesty is the only joke that truly lands.
Written by D.J. Coffman and illustrated by Chris Fason, Witty & Gritty continues VeeFriends’ anthology run of character-first stories that blend humor, heart, and meaning. This issue launches on Thursday, April 30th at 12pm ET on the VeeFriends online shop, alongside a live drop on Whatnot that same day at 10:30pm ET hosted by GaryVee.

Witty Weasel And Gritty Ghost Make Their First Comic Book Appearances

Witty Weasel

Witty Weasel has appeared across NFTs, tees, hoodies, Super Stickers, and trading cards, but Comic Book #16 marks the first time fans get to step inside Witty Weasel’s world and learn what drives him. In this story, Witty Weasel heads to the big city to pursue a dream, carrying painful childhood memories and personal struggles with him. Comedy has always been his medicine, but being witty in real life is different from owning the stage when the spotlight is on.
Gritty Ghost

Gritty Ghost is one of the most recognizable and beloved VeeFriends characters, having appeared on NFTs, trading cards, Super Stickers, tees, hoodies, and FriendsCaps. In Comic Book #16, he finally gets his first comic book role as a failed comedian who died chasing the dream, but never gave up on his passion for comedy and writing. Now, he pushes Witty Weasel to keep standing up, keep swinging, and keep going for the dream, while also trying to steer his friend away from the mistakes that defined his own life.
A Comedy With Something Real To Say

On the surface, Comic Book #16 is about stand-up comedy, bad gigs, rough nights, the toxic competitiveness of the comedy world, and the desperate pursuit of catching a big break. Underneath that, it is a story about what happens when someone stops performing for approval and starts speaking from something real.
Honesty Is The Real Way To Success
Witty & Gritty is about learning that pretending, performing, or chasing approval leads nowhere. Real progress comes when you speak from lived experience, even when it is uncomfortable. The story treats honesty as both a creative tool and a form of healing.
Dreams Are Earned, Not Granted
This story rejects the myth of overnight success. Every small win comes after failure, humiliation, and persistence. Witty & Gritty explores what it actually costs to chase a dream, financially, emotionally, and morally, and asks whether the pursuit is still worth it when the path is unforgiving.
Failure Isn’t Fatal
Bombed sets, bad decisions, and missed opportunities are not treated as punchlines. They are part of the process. Through Witty Weasel and Gritty Ghost, the story reframes failure as a necessary step toward growth, not a reason to quit. As Gritty Ghost likes to say, “Keep standing up!”
Truth Hurts, And Heals
At the heart of Witty & Gritty is the idea that real comedy comes from real pain. Vulnerability, honesty, and lived experience create deeper connections than safe material ever could. The laughs in this story are earned through truth, not tricks.
Integrity Versus Success
The comedy world in Comic Book #16 is competitive, corrupt, and unforgiving. Stolen material, shortcuts, and compromise are all part of the landscape. Witty Weasel is constantly forced to choose between making it and doing it the right way, making integrity the moral spine of the story.
Partnership Through Failure
Witty Weasel and Gritty Ghost form an emotional partnership built on shared failure, belief, and resilience. Gritty Ghost represents the dream that did not work out, and the warning of what happens when someone gives up too soon. Together, they show that success is less about talent and more about refusing to stay down.

Howell is best known for his work as the character designer for Fox’s hit show Bob’s Burgers, and as the co-creator, art director, and executive producer of Nickelodeon’s animated children’s show Sanjay and Craig. Howell’s unique line style, eccentric characters, carefree wit, and no-permissions-asked artistic approach have been exhibited around the world and have led to collaborations with brands including Vans, Gucci, and Playboy.
Rare Variants & Comic Collector Pack Breakdown

Comic Book #16 comes sealed in a Collector’s Comic Pack, turning each blind bag into a surprise pull. The format remains one of the most collectible parts of the VeeFriends Comics experience, with rare variants and one-of-one chase editions built into every launch.
GaryVee’s 1/1 Sketch Cover and the 1/1 Lollipop edition remain some of the biggest chases in the run. Chris Fason also contributes two sketch covers, adding an extra layer of collectibility to a release he helped define through the interior art and Cover A.
