In today’s world, you no longer have to spend flagship prices to enjoy cutting-edge features like a smart lock-screen-baring earbuds case; JBL has made this accessible across its mid-range earbuds lineup with the introduction of the JBL Live Beam 3, Live 3 Buds, Beam, and Flex in January 2024.
My fascination with these earbuds led me to craft a detailed feature highlighting the enhanced experience offered by JBL’s second-generation smart-case earbuds. The initial attempt by JBL in December 2022 with their smartwatch-style screen earbuds case left some doubts, as revealed in our JBL Tour 2 Pro review. However, the success of the second iteration that made it to our best noise-cancelling earbuds list piqued my interest in what the flagship offering of the brand could bring to the table.
Putting the innovative case aside, I delved into the specifications and audio capabilities of the JBL Tour Pro 3. While this is not a comprehensive review, I do have a review sample of the recently launched Tour Pro 3, and I’m excited to share some initial insights with you.
JBL Tour Pro 3: what you need to know
The Tour Pro 3 offers two color options, black, and ‘latte’, with a larger screen and a more compact case compared to its predecessor. One of the standout features is the case’s ability to act as a transmitter, allowing direct connection to in-flight entertainment systems without the need for Bluetooth. Additionally, the Tour Pro 3 is one of the first devices to support Auracast, enabling other Auracast-enabled headphones to join in on the audio broadcast.
Another notable addition is JBL’s Spatial Audio 360, offering immersive sound with head-tracking capabilities. The inclusion of L/R balance optimization, 12 EQ bands, and the Personi-Fi 3.0 feature further enhance the audio experience, tailoring the sound to individual preferences.
What about the noise cancellation?
Under the hood, the Tour Pro 3 houses a hybrid driver setup with dynamic and balanced armature drivers, supported by codecs like LDAC and LE Audio. The True Adaptive Noise Cancellation 2.0 promises smart calibration to address various ambient noises effectively. With six microphones and advanced AI algorithms, the Tour Pro 3 delivers superior call quality and noise reduction.
Battery life is impressive, offering up to 44 hours of music playback with ANC off and quick charging capabilities. Priced at £279.99 / €299.99, the Tour Pro 3 may seem steep, but considering the advanced features, it’s a justified investment.
As a sneak peek into the upcoming full review, I can assure you that the JBL Tour Pro 3 is a promising addition to the brand’s lineup, enhancing the audio experience with innovative features and cutting-edge technology.
