The White House is condemning a social media post from former FBI Director James Comey. The post, which has since been deleted, included the numbers ’86 47′ etched in the sand at a beach using seashells. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich weighed in, saying the post can “clearly be interpreted as ‘a hit’ on the sitting President of the United States.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem responded on X, saying Comey “called for the assassination” of President Donald Trump, adding that DHS and Secret Service are investigating what she called a “threat.”
Comey follow up with another social media post, saying “I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down.”
According to Merriam-Webster, 86 is a slang term meaning to “throw out” or to “get rid of.” Trump is the 47th President of the United States.
